Sugar Sprinkle Cookies

It’s been exactly one year since I first posted on Sugar Dusted Sweets, and I want to celebrate with the recipe for these Sugar Sprinkle Cookies! I challenged myself to create, test, and post a new recipe each week, and I am so proud that I accomplished that goal. I’ve been having so much fun with this blog, and I have many more recipes in mind, so I’m excited to see where this takes me!

Sprinkles make me happy and remind me of celebration, so I made Sugar Sprinkle Cookies! They’re an easy to make, classic sugar cookie with bright, colorful sprinkles. The edges are crispy, the insides are chewy, and they’re buttery and sweet.

How to Make Sugar Sprinkle Cookies

Making the Dough

My celebration cookies are easy to make, don’t need any chilling, and require only one bowl for easy clean-up! To make the cookies, simply cream together the butter and sugar, stir in the egg, vanilla, baking powder, and baking soda, mix in the flour, and finally, fold in the sprinkles. That’s it! Scoop the cookies onto a baking sheet in 2 tablespoon measures and gently flatten each cookie with your hand before baking.

Baking

Bake the cookies at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden and the centers are set. Immediately after removing the cookies from the oven, gently bang the tray on the stovetop or countertop to deflate the cookies. Side note – warn those around you that you’re going to make a noise! I definitely made my husband jump the first time I made these. After the cookies are fully baked, transfer them to a cooling rack and cool fully. Enjoy!

Serving and Storage

Store the Sugar Sprinkle Cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can store for longer by freezing the dough to bake fresh, or simply freezing the baked cookies. To freeze cookie dough, form the dough into balls on a cookie sheet and freeze until solid. Then transfer to a container or sealable bag and freeze until ready to bake, up to 2 months. Bake the frozen dough at 350°F for 12 minutes.

These were delicious sugar cookies, as promised! I didn’t bang my tray to deflate my cookies, so mine didn’t look as flat as those in the picture. Is there a way to flatten without banging? I use a baking stone and am afraid of breaking it.

    1. Great question! You can also flatten the cookies with your hand before baking, which will prevent them from puffing up too much.
