How to Make Mini M&M Crusted Cookies

Make the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

The base dough for these Mini M&M Crusted Cookies is chocolate chip, which adds even more melty chocolate pieces for the ultimate chocolate experience. Start by making the chocolate chip cookie dough! First, preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking tray with parchment paper. Next, cream together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl before adding the egg and vanilla extract. Once combined, add the baking soda, salt, and flour and stir until completely incorporated. Finally, fold in the chocolate chips. Adding the chocolate chips really make this cookie. Biting through a crunchy M&M crust and finding a soft, chewy cookie packed with melty chocolate chips is incredible.

Roll in Mini M&Ms

To form that beautiful mini M&M crust on the outside of the cookies, simply roll and press the cookie dough into the mini M&Ms. First, pour all of the mini M&Ms into a mixing bowl and make sure your hands are clean, as the M&Ms stick best to the dough when they are pressed in. Next, form the cookie dough into balls, each with about 2 tbsp of dough. Roll and press each cookie dough ball into the mini M&Ms. Don’t be afraid to press firmly to get a good coating! Place the M&M-crusted cookie dough balls onto a baking sheet, making sure to leave about 2 inches of space between each cookie. Lightly press on the top of each dough ball to flatten, and you’re ready to bake!

Baking

Bake the cookies at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the centers are set. Transfer them to a cooling rack to cool slightly. I think these Mini M&M Crusted Cookies are best warm and fresh from the oven, so make sure to give them a try while still warm. Enjoy!

Storage

Once baked, these cookies will store well in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days. You can freeze both unbaked cookie dough and baked cookies if needed. To freeze the baked cookies, simply place the cookies in an airtight container and freeze them for up to two months. They do taste best warm or at room temperature, so take your cookies out of the freezer at least an hour before you’d like to eat them. To freeze the cookie dough, place the mini M&M crusted dough balls on a parchment-lined baking tray and put it in the freezer. Once frozen, transfer the cookie dough balls to a container or bag. When you’re ready for a cookie, bake from frozen in a 350°F oven for 12-14 minutes.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter room temperature
  • ¼ cup (100 g) sugar
  • ½ cup (100 g) brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp (4 g) vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp (2 g) baking soda
  • ½ tsp (2 g) salt
  • 1 ½ cups (200 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (80 g) chocolate chips
  • 2 10-oz bags mini M&Ms

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Pour the mini M&Ms into a medium sized bowl and set aside.
  • In a separate, large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • Add the baking soda, salt, and flour. Stir until all of the flour has been incorporated.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Scoop the cookie dough into balls, each containing about 2 tbsp of dough. Press and roll each ball into the mini M&Ms to form a crust.
  • Place the mini M&M crusted dough balls onto the baking sheet, about 2 inches apart, and flatten them slightly.
  • Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden brown and the centers are set.
  • Allow the cookies to cool slightly and enjoy!
